Freestanding Vs. Built-in Kitchen Appliances

Updated: Apr 28

The kitchen appliances such as ovens, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and washing machines are certainly not cheap to buy: they are a great investment and an essential part of everyday life.

If the costs for renovating the kitchen have almost reached the budget limit, you have to stop, take a deep breath and start thinking well about how to save on household appliances so as not to regret the purchase made immediately.

One of the questions that many often ask is the arrangement of appliances: integrate them in the kitchen or put them on their own?

Below, here is everything you need to know.

The style and size of a kitchen play a fundamental role in deciding which appliances to focus on.

If the kitchen is small and you want to create the illusion that there is more space, built-in appliances can offer the clean lines you are looking for.

Usually, integrated appliances are smaller in size than independent ones.

Thanks to these dimensions, it is possible to install them behind the doors of a kitchen cupboard, offering that seamless aspect it is looking for.

If the family is large and the need for a large refrigerator, a washing machine with a large capacity or an extra space in the dishwasher becomes urgent, the built-in appliances are certainly not the case.

As regards maintenance in general, integrated appliances are known to be difficult to replace and maintain.

It is not at all easy to take out a damaged dishwasher and replace it with a new one.

Built-in appliances are firmly fixed under the kitchen shelf and, at the same time, to a cabinet door which usually corresponds to its exact dimensions.

So even if a person has tried to replace his built-in appliance with another, he should still modify the connecting door and the dimensions of the place to perfectly adapt them to the new appliance.

There are many people who appreciate and research integrated appliances, above all because they offer the kitchen an elegant and sophisticated look, adding value to the whole house.

However, since they are integrated, it is necessary to abandon them when changing kitchen furniture, unless the spaces in which they are to be inserted are practically equal.

Another limitation is availability, which is considerably lower in terms of styles and functions offered by independent appliances.

To conclude, the budget available to make expensive purchases plays a truly fundamental role.

Since integrated appliances tend to cost more, they may go beyond what is available. In contrast, the independent ones.

On the other hand, the independent ones have a wider range of prices and therefore finding the cheap ones is much simpler.
