The layout of kitchen sinks is diverse to cater to individual lifestyle, capacity & budget. They range from a tiny single bowl on an island counter to the massive double bowl + drainer model in excess of 1 m length.

There are also double bowl sinks without drain board, the draining function is done by a multi-tier rack in the top cabinet above the sink. 

The latest trend is towards giant single bowls with custom accessories to configure the sink to suit any particular job of the moment.

DRAIN & STRAINER

A critical but often oversight point is the drain. A large sink must be matched with a large drainer. A matching large strainer ensures that the draining process will not be interrupted by the blockage of food debris.

MATERIAL & GAUGE

Kitchen sinks made be made of natural stone, artificial granite, fibre glass but predominantly of stainless steel steel.

Sheet stainless steel is a very suitable material for sink manufacture due to the ease of forming the required shape, it strength & durability. The gauge of stainless steel used may be from 0.5 to 1.2 mm.

A well made stainless steel sink will seemingly last forever.

TOP / UNDERMOUNT

The edges of a top mount sink sit on the countertop, the most common type. This method is practical, easy to install & very lasting.

​

Some sinks are of the undermount type, the edge is sandwiched between the countertop & the cabinet carcass to achieve a sleek look. It more commonly associated with designer kitchens. The installation is more difficult & overtime the failure of the sealant may result in moisture seeping into the cabinet to cause damage.

SAFETY OVERFLOW

Despite the importance of this simple, it is not available on all kitchen sinks. It prevents accidental overflow of water that can expensive damage your cabinet, kitchen, or entire house.

CUSTOM ACCESSORIES

Custom accessories are extensions that are specially designed for your sink to extend its capabilities, turning your sink into a complete space-saving system of food preparation & post-meal cleaning up.

An example will be a custom chopping board that will improve the hygiene of a kitchen by allowing raw food cutting & cleaning on the sink itself. Or a colander that quickly adds a second bowl to a large single bowl sink for the purpose of soaking & rinsing food items.
